What this step does
The Update profile step updates one or more contact profile fields when a contact reaches the step.

2 How to configure this step
Here are the steps:
- Open the journey, and add or click the Update profile step.
- In Settings, choose the profile fields you want to update and the values to apply.
- Review Apply to which contacts, and click Save.

- Lifecycle tracking: Update a profile field when a contact reaches a milestone in the journey.
- Segmentation: Set a field value so future campaigns and journeys can target the right contacts.
- Status management: Mark a contact as onboarded, qualified, or completed based on journey progress.

Here is how this step behaves in a live journey so you can configure it with fewer surprises.
- You are limited to updating one profile field per step. To update multiple fields, please add additional "Update profile" steps.
- If you field has predefined values, the value input will list the possible value options.
- When a profile update occurs, the system will trigger a profile update event that journeys can listen to.

What can I update with Update profile?
You can update supported contact profile fields based on the options available in Settings.
Can I target only some contacts?
Yes. Use Apply to which contacts if the update should only happen for a subset of contacts.
Is Update profile better than a split for simple conditions?
Often, yes. If the step should only apply to some contacts, use Apply to which contacts instead of adding an extra split.
