What this step does
The Remove tag step removes one or more tags from the contact when the contact reaches the step.

Common settings you will see

2 How to configure this step

Here are the steps:

  1. Open the journey, and add or click the Remove tag step.
  2. Select the tags to remove.
  3. Set Apply to which contacts if needed, and click Save.

  • Stage cleanup: Remove a previous lifecycle tag when a contact moves to a new stage.
  • Temporary campaigns: Remove promotional tags after the campaign period ends.
  • Data hygiene: Remove tags that no longer apply after a contact action.

Here is how this step behaves in a live journey so you can configure it with fewer surprises.

  • For each tag removed from the contact, an event is triggered that journeys can listen to.
  • If the tag is not currently associated with the contact, no event will be generated.

If the step includes Apply to which contacts, you can limit the step to all contacts or only contacts that match criteria.

Yes. You can edit the step in a running journey. Changes usually apply quickly, so test carefully.
