What this step does
The Add group step adds a contact to one or more groups when the contact reaches the step.

2 How to configure this step

Here are the steps:

  1. Open the journey, and add or click the Add group step.
  2. Select the group or groups to add the contact to.
  3. Set Apply to which contacts if needed, and click Save.

  • Audience organization: Add contacts to a group used for campaigns or reporting.
  • Journey outcomes: Add contacts to a group after they complete a key part of the journey.

Here is how this step behaves in a live journey so you can configure it with fewer surprises.

  • For each group that the contact is added to, an event is triggered that journeys can listen to.
  • If the contact is already in the group, no event will be generated.

Can I use contact criteria with this step?
If the step includes Apply to which contacts, you can limit the step to all contacts or only contacts that match criteria.
Can I edit this step in a running journey?
Yes. You can edit the step in a running journey. Changes usually apply quickly, so test carefully.

A step that is not fully configured may be skipped in a running journey until you finish the setup.
