  • Save

2 How to configure this step

Here are the steps:

  1. Open the journey, and add or click the Start a journey step.
  2. In Settings, select the journey that should start for the contact.
  3. Review Apply to which contacts if only some contacts should start the second journey.
  4. Click Save, and test both journeys together.
Warning: Review the target journey’s entry and run settings to avoid unexpected overlap or repeat runs.

3 Use cases and business examples

  • Modular journeys: Start a second journey when a contact finishes an onboarding journey.
  • Sales handoff flows: Start a separate follow-up journey for qualified contacts.
  • Lifecycle progression: Move contacts from one journey to another as they reach milestones.

4 Step notes

Here is how this step behaves in a live journey so you can configure it with fewer surprises.

Caution: If you specify the same journey as the current journey, a loop is created that may cause issues.
  • If the journey selected isn’t running, the contact will not be added to it.

5 FAQ

Why use Start a journey instead of one large journey?
It helps keep automation modular and easier to manage, especially when different teams own different parts of the process.
Can I target only some contacts for the new journey?
Yes. Use Apply to which contacts on the Start a journey step.
Should I test both journeys together?
Yes. Test the handoff to confirm the contact starts the target journey as expected.
