Join and Go to steps
This article explains how to use the join and Go to steps in Tarvent Journeys.
What we'll cover
1 Concepts
What this step does
The Join and Go tos step performs an action or controls flow inside a journey.
Step settings
Configure the step in the right-side editor, and click Save after making changes.
Contact criteria
Many steps support Apply to which contacts so the step only runs for contacts who match selected criteria.
Note: After adding a step to the map, click it to open the step editor on the right and configure the settings.
2 How to use it
Here are the steps:
- Open the journey you want to work with.
- Locate the item in the journey map or add it from Add if it is not already on the map.
- Click the item to open the editor on the right side.
- Configure the settings for your use case, and then click Save.
3 Use cases and examples
Common use cases:
- Branch contacts by behavior or profile criteria
- Run A/B path tests with a random split
- Rejoin multiple paths before a shared next step
Pro-tip: Keep the journey path simple first, and then add more conditions or branches after the basic flow is working.
4 Journey notes
- Join is a 2-step setup and is only for merging 2 paths back together. It cannot be used like a Go to step.
- When selecting the join or routing destination, do not choose the last position in a path if there are no steps after it except Complete journey. The destination path needs at least one step after the join point.
- Go to can route a contact to almost any point in the journey, but the start of the Go to must be placed at the end of a path.
5 FAQ
What happens if this step is not configured?
Unconfigured steps can be skipped in a running journey. Review the step settings before launch.
Can I apply this step only to some contacts?
Many steps support Apply to which contacts so the step runs only when criteria are met.
Can I edit this step in a running journey?
Usually yes, but use caution because contacts may already be on the path.
