Engagement split step
This article explains how to use the engagement split step in Tarvent Journeys.
What we'll cover
1 Concepts
What this step does
The Engagement split step performs an action or controls flow inside a journey.
Step settings
Configure the step in the right-side editor, and click Save after making changes.
Contact criteria
Many steps support Apply to which contacts so the step only runs for contacts who match selected criteria.
Engagement settings
The editor includes fields such as Campaign, Campaign event, Link, and Link pattern - Optional.
Note: After adding a step to the map, click it to open the step editor on the right and configure the settings.
2 How to use it
Here are the steps:
- Open the journey you want to work with.
- Locate the item in the journey map or add it from Add if it is not already on the map.
- Click the item to open the editor on the right side.
- Configure the settings for your use case, and then click Save.
3 Use cases and examples
Common use cases:
- Branch contacts by behavior or profile criteria
- Run A/B path tests with a random split
- Rejoin multiple paths before a shared next step
Pro-tip: Keep the journey path simple first, and then add more conditions or branches after the basic flow is working.
4 Step notes
- Engagement split routes contacts based on whether they performed the selected campaign event.
- This step checks engagement when the contact reaches the step. It does not wait for future activity.
- If you want near real-time progression, place a Wait until step before this step and use matching criteria so Tarvent can recheck approximately every 15 minutes until the wait limit is reached.
