1 Concepts

What this step does
The Wait until date field step performs an action or controls flow inside a journey.

Step settings
Configure the step in the right-side editor, and click Save after making changes.

Contact criteria
Many steps support Apply to which contacts so the step only runs for contacts who match selected criteria.

Date field waits
Configure the Integration, Field, and an optional Wait limit to control how long the journey waits.

Note: After adding a step to the map, click it to open the step editor on the right and configure the settings.

2 How to use it

Here are the steps:

  1. Open the journey you want to work with.
  2. Locate the item in the journey map or add it from Add if it is not already on the map.
  3. Click the item to open the editor on the right side.
  4. Configure the settings for your use case, and then click Save.
Note: Use a wait limit where available so contacts are not stuck in the journey indefinitely.

3 Use cases and examples

Common use cases:

  • Space out messages in an onboarding sequence
  • Pause until a field changes before continuing
  • Limit wait time so contacts are not stuck indefinitely
Pro-tip: Keep the journey path simple first, and then add more conditions or branches after the basic flow is working.

4 Step notes

  • This step is useful when a process updates a date field within a short window, such as renewals, registrations, or upcoming appointments.
  • The step waits for the selected date field to change. The actual date value does not need to match a specific target unless you use another step for that logic.
  • Only date, date/time, and birthday fields are available.
  • Tarvent checks for changes approximately every 15 minutes, and the maximum wait limit is 30 days.

5 FAQ

What happens if this step is not configured?
Unconfigured steps can be skipped in a running journey. Review the step settings before launch.
Can I apply this step only to some contacts?
Many steps support Apply to which contacts so the step runs only when criteria are met.
Can I edit this step in a running journey?
Usually yes, but use caution because contacts may already be on the path.
